The Greenbrier
Wellness Committee identified areas of wellness
that we would use as a foundation for building
healthy habits
that last a lifetime. These areas are:
Nutrition
- Exercise
-
Environmental
Greening - Health Habits and
Safety
We took a look at the things that are happening in our
school, our community and with our families.
Whew! We are doing a
lot to promote healthy habits
that last a lifetime. The bottom line? The more we
value wellness,
our school wins, our community wins, and
OUR KIDS WIN!
Yeah!!!!
Every
year, our school community (students, families and staff,
yeah, all of us) work together on projects that help
increase awareness of healthy habits
that last a life time. The Wellness
Committee supports and
encourages a wide range of activities.
The Greenbrier
Wellness Committee using the Gators
on
the Go have
developed a program to support the development of
healthy habits
that last a lifetime.
We have identified
goals using the months January
through June as our main focus, 5 -4 - 3 - 2 - 1
• 5 Daily servings
of fruit and vegetable (January, 5 months to promote
healthy habits)
• 4 Daily servings
of water and hygiene habits including hand washing and
cough etiquette (February, 4 months to promote healthy
habits)
• 3 Daily servings
of dairy (March, 3 months to promote healthy
habits)
• 2 Hours or less
of daily screen time (April, 2 months to promote healthy
habits)
• 1 Hour of daily
exercise (May, 1 month to promote healthy
habits)
We coordinate activities each month that correlate with our
monthly goal (as stated above). We invite you to
partner with us and increase the focus on these goals at
home.
A few
examples of the things we have done include:
Students and family have partnered to design
Wellness
tee-shirts,
We have kept
charts on ’30 minutes of movement’,
We have kept
charts on dental hygiene habits,
We have
participated in hand-washing and cough etiquette
lessons,
We have described
our home safety plans,
We have talked about our favorite vegetables and why we
love them,
We have
participated in ‘Walk To School Day”
We have written
about our healthy family food choices
We have limited
our screen time (video games and computer included) during
‘National TV Turn-Off Week’
We have
participated in a ‘Greenbrier Bike Safety Clinic
sponsored
in conjunction with
our Student Resource Officer
As stated, the Greenbrier Community is very invested in
helping our children develop healthy habits
that last a lifetime.
For continued participation, please check the Friday Packet
and the Gazette for events.
The Greenbrier
Wellness Committee is proud to join our community
in supporting healthy habits
that last a lifetime.
